The Northwest Passage Expedition

Challenge yourself on a 400km cold trek through the historical Northwest Passage!
This is an expedition that has everything a polar explorer can dream of: Temperatures twice as cold as your freezer, majestic landscapes, inuit culture, sea ice with pressure ridges, tundra and wildlife. On our way we will possibly meet caribou, muskox, arctic fox and polar bears.

Itinerary

You must be at our starting point Cambridge Bay on April 5th.
We expect 1-2 days of packing before we put on our skis and head out into the wilderness.

Cambridge Bay is a small village of 1600 inhabitants in the Nunavut territory in Canada. You may have heard of this place recently, as this summer another of Roald Amundsen’s polar ships ‘Maud’ was rescued from the bottom of the harbor, to be brought back to Norway.

April 7th to April 26th – the expedition is ON!
After packing our sleds we will ski into the cold polar environment and leave civilisation behind for almost 20 days.
First we will follow the sea ice, cross Jenny Lind Island, traverse real pressure ridges like those you find on the North Pole, before entering King William Island and the last bit on the tundra into Goa Haven. This is the place Amundsen and his men spent two years frozen in the ice on the way through the passage.

This trip is a perfect alternative to the North Pole if you are not in the situation to travel all the way to the North Pole and your reason for traveling is to be in a polar environment.
