Spring Photo Adventures in Flatanger

Join The Eagle Man for exceptional photo adventures in beautiful Flatanger!

Everybody loves Spring! This is when nature wakes up from its long winter hibernation. The migratory birds are returning and are greeted by resident species to put on an impressive nature show to delight the senses. This is the time when Capercaille and Black Grouse perform their elaborate courtship display or ‘lek’. Each male has his arena and the courtship displays start early in the mornings so photographers have to overnight in hides to capture the action. Flatanger is strategically located on the coast with easy access to ocean, island archipelago, coastal wetlands, boreal forest and high mountains – a rich and varied landscape ideal base for capturing nature’s spring adventures.

Spring season: 25th of April – 8th of May

About

What can be photographed in Spring?

We’ve identified fantastic ‘lek’ arenas where it is possible to capture the exciting action of courtship displays and territorial disputes. You can observe and photograph Capercaillie from a camouflage tent and the Black grouse from a solid photo hide. Capercaillie and Black grouse are easily disturbed and our aim is to observe, enjoy and photograph without disturbing the courtship displays.

This is also the time when Sea eagles actively hunt for fish to feed their newly hatched chicks. Thousands of Pink Footed Geese arrive along the coastal wetlands of Trøndalag in preparation for the last leg of their long migration to Svalbard. Slavonian grebe dance in the water as the pale spring sunshine warms and nourishes the landscape. This is a lovely time to come to Flatanger and we, like the birds love the Spring!

Other photo opportunities can include:

  • Red squirrels
  • White-tailed Sea Eagle
